Shellac

I do this thing.

This thing where I pick at my nails.

Create, and then tear away at, different layers in the actual nail.

It's an issue.

Most of the time, I'm pretty good at leaving them alone and letting them grow out.

But you can pretty much guarantee that as soon as they start to look good, I'm going to get in there and ruin them.

Like I said - it's an issue.

I can't exactly explain why I do it. I think it's probably just one more thing we can add to an ever growing list of proof that I am ridiculously neurotic.

Because let's face it - I am ridiculously neurotic.

But it doesn't exactly help with the whole hating my hands thing.

So last week, when Mrs. King and I were getting pedicures to celebrate her birthday, my ears perked up when the nail technician began describing Shellac.

Basically, it's a polish that is hardened by UV light. One that is supposed to be completely chip-proof for up to 2 weeks, and should harden nails enough to keep them from breaking.

Or in my case, from being torn down to the nub.

I had an appointment this afternoon.

I just did a clear polish, so they're nothing really to look at yet. But I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that in a few weeks, I might actually have nails.

Nails that I won't be quite so compelled to destroy.

Like I said - I can't even begin to explain why I do it.

But I'm hoping that maybe (just maybe) this might be the solution to getting my neurotic self to stop.

I'll let you know...
