I recieved a call yesterday, followed up with another e-mail regarding more information on that endometriosis research study I mentioned here last week.
It appears as though they are definitely looking for people closer to Mass General, so I'm out (the thousands of miles in between being a good indicator that I couldn't make the 43 trips required over the 10 months of the study), but I did want to share the additional information I recieved.
And if any of you do end up participating, I would still love to learn more as you do! It really is exciting to hear about such research happening, and new drugs possibly reaching the market.
So here is what I know:
MGH will be conducting an investigational research study for female subjects between 18 and 40 that have moderate to severe endometriosis and who are eligible under the study criteria.
The study involves an investigational medication and up to 43 study visits over approximately 10 months.
All study related procedures will be at no cost.
Study eligible participants may receive up to $2,150 for reimbursement of their time and travel.

The study is sponsored by Novartis and is designed as a double-blind placebo-controlled study of two doses of an aromatase inhibitor that is effective with monthly administration. The study is designed to determine the safety (with some early efficacy data) in this population without concomitant OCPs. There are careful stopping rules to guard against hyperstimulation. The study is fairly long (3 months of medication/placebo, with pre and post monitoring), but reimburses well and will hopefully be of interest for patients with endometriosis who are not trying to conceive at the current time.
Patient Criteria:
-Moderate - severe endometriosis (documented by laparoscopy within 10 yr)
-Age 18-40; BMI <40
- Not planning pregnancy in the next year and agree to use barrier or non-hormonal contraception
- Regular cycles on no medication
