I have been the world’s biggest bum today.
I slept in until 11, didn’t get out of bed until noon, tore the covers away solely to make something to eat before crawling back into bed, watched the Big Love DVD’s I got in the mail yesterday, and here I am... still in bed.
At 4 in the afternoon.
In my defense, I'm actually a bit sore and bruised from yesterday.
But, the living room is done and looks absolutely beautiful.
After taking a breather to calm down last night, the rest of the work moved pretty quickly. Once the paint on the floor dried, I was able to scrape most of it off with a butter knife.
Of course, that meant going around the entire room on my hands and knees again, but whatever; it worked.
Then I brought some of the wall paint up from the storage unit downstairs and touched up all the areas where I had gone over with white. I managed to do this without creating any further messes, which was a miracle in and of itself.
And for those of you who were hollering at me about tape, trust me; I know all about tape! What I learned about tape when I first moved in though is that if you have any kind of texture to your walls - it doesn't always work out so well. I went to the trouble of taping everything before I painted the entire condo, only to remove the tape and discover that paint had seeped through at multiple spots.
I was not pleased.
Plus, even where it had worked; I was left with all these wacky lines that weren't necessarily straight.
I just learned that when you're dealing with textured walls, you're better off trusting in a steady hand.
Of course, I clearly don't have a steady hand, so I don't know what I'm talking about.
Now I have an entire box of flooring and a few rods of edging to return to Home Depot (because I over purchased by what I'm assuming is about $150 worth of product - score!), but I just can’t bring myself to get up and out of bed to go there.
How pathetic is that?
The carpet I wanted for the bedrooms was special ordered and still isn’t in yet, so they currently look pretty beat up in comparison – but I am officially enamored with my living room. I seriously love it and can’t believe I lived here for over a year before making this upgrade.
I did take some before pictures, so you should be able to get an idea of what the carpet looked like:
As you can tell, it was just old and run down (and practically the same color as my walls!) I’ve convinced myself that it’s the same carpet from when the condo was built in 1983, and something about that thought has just always grossed me out.
How many people have walked and lived all over these carpets?
The entryway is the worst too. Who puts carpet right up to the front door in a state where it snows at least 6 months a year? There was nowhere to stop and take your shoes off without risking ruining the carpet even more.
It didn’t help that when I moved in and took over painting, my superior painting skills wound up all over the floor either. But I always knew that eventually I would upgrade, so I tried not to let it bug me too much.
And I had no idea how much it really did bug me until I got these new floors in.
Isn’t it beautiful?
I am absolutely smitten right now and can’t stop looking at my living room.
Of course, now I’m going to have to get some sort of big throw rug for all of that open space. That makes sense, right? Replace the carpet just to put a big rug down?
Decorating cracks me up.
I officially cannot wait for the new carpet to get in for my bedrooms so that I can declare this job complete, but for now all I can think about is how cute this room is going to look with baby things scattered about.
I am literally imagining the swing and bouncy chair already.
And that's probably a good sign.
A sign that someone is starting to bounce back.
